What is alias writ of arrest?

An alias writ of arrest is a legal order issued by a court of law to law enforcement officials authorizing them to arrest an individual who has failed to appear before the court as ordered. This type of writ is issued when the initial writ of arrest is not executed, or the person sought to be arrested is not found. It is essentially a second chance for the court to enforce its order for the person’s arrest. Once the alias writ is issued, law enforcement officials are authorized to make an arrest and bring the individual before the court to face the charges against them. If the person fails to show up for court again, the court may issue another alias writ, and the process starts again. Alias writs of arrest are typically used in criminal cases, but they may also be used in civil cases where a party has failed to attend a court-ordered hearing or trial.
